In this interview, she shares her insights on leadership, her journey to success, and her vision for the future.

Tell us a bit about your upbringing. What role has your upbringing played in shaping the leader you are today? Can you share any early influences or experiences that contributed to your career path?

Growing up as an Indian kid from Delhi within a Sikh family instilled in me a deep sense of community, resilience, and integrity from a young age. Sikh values emphasize selfless service, hard work, and standing up for what’s right, which became cornerstones of my personal and professional life. My family placed a strong emphasis on education and moral principles, fostering an environment where respect, empathy, and perseverance were paramount.

One early influence was watching my father’s dedication to his work and his compassion for those around him. Seeing him balance both inspired me to aim for a career that would allow me to make a meaningful impact. Another defining experience was the sense of community I found within Delhi’s Sikh gatherings. These moments taught me the importance of leadership that uplifts others—a lesson I carry into my role today, ensuring that every strategy we pursue is guided by values that benefit both our team and the broader community.

You have been leading KIV Investments as the CEO, fostering innovative strategies and expanding into international markets. What has been the most pivotal moment in your journey with KIV Investments so far?

One of the most pivotal moments in my journey with KIV Investments was our first expansion into international markets. It wasn’t just about venturing into new territories; it was a commitment to understanding and adapting to diverse market dynamics, cultural nuances, and regulatory environments. This step pushed our team to think globally while still honoring the core values that define KIV Investments. The experience taught us invaluable lessons in resilience, adaptability, and the power of local partnerships. The success of this expansion solidified our confidence and set the foundation for more ambitious growth, shaping our path forward in transformative ways.

You’re a councilwoman for Marlboro Township, New Jersey. Can you share what drove you to enter public service, and what challenges you faced as a woman of Indian origin in this role?

My decision to enter public service as a councilwoman for Marlboro Township stemmed from a strong desire to give back to the community that has given me so much. Growing up with Sikh values, I learned the importance of Seva, or selfless service, which inspired me to step forward and advocate for the needs of my neighbors. I wanted to ensure that diverse voices, including those from underrepresented communities, had a seat at the table.

As a woman of Indian origin, I faced challenges around visibility and representation. There were times when I felt my ideas were questioned more than others, and I had to navigate cultural assumptions. However, these experiences only strengthened my resolve to bring a fresh perspective to local governance. I stayed grounded in my roots, drawing strength from my community’s resilience and my family’s support. Today, I am proud to represent not just Marlboro but also the broader South Asian community, proving that our contributions are essential in shaping an inclusive future.

As a councilwoman, what are the key initiatives you’ve spearheaded for the betterment of Marlboro Township, and how have these projects impacted the local community?

As a councilwoman, I’ve had the privilege of leading several key initiatives aimed at enhancing quality of life, promoting sustainability, and fostering inclusivity in Marlboro Township. One initiative I’m particularly proud of is our Farmer’s Market. It provides a venue for small family farmers to sell locally grown produce directly to the community and encourages conversation between buyers and growers, promotes healthy food options, supports the local economy, and fosters social gathering, enhancing community building and quality of life in Marlboro Township.

Another major project was our Sustainable Marlboro Initiative, where we implemented green practices such as expanded recycling programs, community clean-ups, and partnerships to bring more renewable energy solutions to the township. These efforts have not only reduced our environmental footprint but also increased community awareness about sustainability.

Marlboro Township has achieved “Tree City USA” community status annually since 2008, meeting the high standards to earn this honor with an active tree board, a tree-care ordinance, a community forestry program and an annual Arbor Day observance. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

Additionally, I have focused on strengthening cultural engagement by supporting events that celebrate the diversity within Marlboro. These events have built bridges across different backgrounds, creating a more united community and giving everyone a space to feel seen and valued.

Each of these projects has had a tangible impact, making Marlboro Township a healthier, more inclusive, and forward-thinking place for all residents.

Balancing the responsibilities of being a CEO and a councilwoman must be challenging. How do you manage these roles, and how do you prioritize decisions across these domains?

Balancing my responsibilities as both a CEO and a councilwoman requires a strong commitment to time management, clear prioritization, and a deep sense of purpose. I’ve found that the key lies in aligning my goals across both roles. As a CEO, I’m focused on strategic growth and innovative solutions, while as a councilwoman, my priority is serving the community. By bringing a shared vision of sustainable and inclusive progress into both domains, I can make decisions that complement each role.

I prioritize by setting clear, goal-oriented frameworks and surrounding myself with capable teams who share these visions. I allocate specific times for council responsibilities and business duties, allowing me to be fully present and engaged in each. Additionally, I rely on strong communication and delegation to keep everything running smoothly. This balance isn’t always easy, but the reward of making a meaningful impact—both for my company and my community—makes it worthwhile.

You’ve broken new ground as the first Indian woman to invest in the ultra-premium agave-based Ambhar Tequila brand. What sparked your interest in the spirits industry, and how did this partnership come about?

My interest in the spirits industry came from a fascination with how unique products can connect people across cultures and experiences. Tequila, in particular, has a rich heritage and is celebrated for its artisanal craftsmanship, which resonated with me. When I discovered Ambhar Tequila, its commitment to quality and tradition stood out. I saw a natural alignment with my values and a unique opportunity to bring a diverse perspective to an industry that’s constantly evolving.

The partnership came about through a shared vision for innovation in the ultra-premium tequila market. Ambhar was looking to expand its reach and elevate its brand, and I knew my background could contribute to that mission. Joining forces with Ambhar was not only a business venture but also a chance to bridge cultures and introduce this remarkable spirit to new audiences.

Ambhar Tequila has gained international recognition under your leadership. What are your key goals for the brand moving forward, especially as you aim to expand into new markets in Europe and Asia?

My key goals for Ambhar Tequila focus on scaling sustainably while honoring the brand’s heritage and commitment to quality. As we look to expand into new markets in Europe and Asia, one primary objective is to build a brand presence that resonates with each region’s unique preferences and cultural nuances.

For Europe, our goal is to position Ambhar as a staple among premium tequila brands, appealing to the refined palates of consumers who value artisanal quality. In Asia, where interest in tequila is growing, we aim to educate and introduce Ambhar as a distinctive, ultra-premium choice, integrating it into modern mixology trends and celebrations.

Beyond geographical expansion, we’re also committed to increasing our brand’s digital presence, enhancing customer engagement, and partnering with local influencers who reflect Ambhar’s values. By focusing on authenticity and customer connection, we aim to elevate Ambhar Tequila as a global ambassador of quality and tradition in the spirits industry.

You’ve been recognized with the Indian Icon Award for your exceptional leadership. How does this recognition influence your approach to entrepreneurship and community leadership moving forward?

Receiving the Indian Icon Award is a humbling reminder of the responsibility I have as a leader, both in entrepreneurship and in my community work. This recognition strengthens my commitment to lead with purpose, integrity, and a focus on creating a lasting impact. It motivates me to continue breaking boundaries, not only as a business leader but also as a role model for others who may feel underrepresented in their fields.

Moving forward, this award inspires me to champion innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability in my ventures. It also reinforces my dedication to community leadership, pushing me to advocate for causes close to my heart and to empower others, especially women and young entrepreneurs, to pursue their ambitions. The recognition is both an honor and a call to keep striving for progress, aiming to leave a positive, inspiring legacy.

Through KIV Investments, you’ve navigated various industries successfully. What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs, especially women, looking to make their mark in traditionally male-dominated fields?

For aspiring entrepreneurs, especially women entering male-dominated fields, my advice is to believe deeply in your vision and approach every challenge with resilience. Start by building a solid foundation of knowledge and skills relevant to your industry; this expertise will not only give you confidence but also credibility as you make your mark.

Networking is essential—seek mentors and allies who support your growth and can offer guidance when navigating uncharted territories. Don’t be afraid to bring your unique perspective to the table, as diversity in thought is a powerful asset. Stand firm in your values, stay adaptable, and understand that setbacks are part of the journey. Lastly, embrace a mindset of lifelong learning, as it keeps you open to innovation and continuous improvement. Remember, your success will inspire others to follow, making it all the more important to pave the way forward with determination and integrity.
