Afshan Azad

Azad is of Bangladeshi heritage but was born in Longsight, located in Manchester, England. She received her high school education at Whalley Range High School and then continued her education at Xaverian College in Rusholme, where she earned AS levels in chemistry, biology, English, and business studies. She attended the University of Salford and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Design.

Azad is most recognized for her portrayal as Padma Patil in the Harry Potter film series, which began with 2005’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. She appeared in all five of the Harry Potter movies. She was selected for the position after being put through a number of tryouts by casting agents who came to her school and ultimately decided that trying out for the part was not as bad as it sounded. Azad had revealed that she had auditioned “simply for the pleasure of it,” and to her amazement, she was cast in the role.

Azad was a guest presenter on an episode of the CBBC program Marrying Mum & Dad with Ed Petrie in 2017, filling in for Naomi Wilkinson while she was on vacation.

In 2010, Afshan was seriously attacked by her brother and father for dating a boy of Indian descent. The case was taken to the Manchester Magistrate’s Court, and as a result, her brother was charged with assault and causing bodily harm on June 29th, 2010. The following year, her brother was sentenced to six months.

In the hearing, Judge Rodger Thomas QC read the judgment as follows;

“Some serious and hurtful threats accompanied the attack. The event was terrifying to your sister, who also mentioned that it went on for nearly three hours. The context of this offense is the worry that you and maybe other family members felt about Afshan’s friendship with a young man who did not practice the religion of Islam. This worry was the impetus for this offense.

He further stated,

The purpose of this punishment is twofold: first, to hold you accountable for what you did; second, to make it plain to everyone else that incidents of domestic violence involving circumstances similar to those that have occurred here will not be condoned. The court heard that Miss Azzad was talking on her mobile phone in her bedroom when her brother was in the bathroom and overheard what she was doing. Her brother concluded that she was chatting to her Hindu lover since he overheard the conversation.”

Afshan’s acting career has significantly risen over the years. After the Harry Potter series ended, she appeared on various British television shows such as The Bill, Waterloo Road, and several TV commercials. In 2009, she made her cinema debut in the movie London River, starring Eva Green and Shaun Evans. In 2012, Azad appeared as Anita/Nina in the Bollywood film Saluting Sally, directed by Rajiv Rai, which opened in theaters on May 1st, 2012. She also appeared as herself on ITV’s popular daytime quiz show The Chase, which aired on November 3rd, 2016, after filming an episode earlier that week.

Afshan Azad and her husband became parents to a baby girl on July 28th, 2021. The actress, who became famous for portraying the part of Padma Patil in the Harry Potter series, announced the birth of her baby on Instagram by posting a photo of herself with her new daughter. Afshan has said that she and her husband, Nabil Kazi, were expecting a daughter together.

A baby blanket that read “Baby Kazi” was folded up nicely and placed next to the infant, as seen in the image. The infant was wearing a onesie in a light purple color. On the blanket was something like a coaster that stated, “Hello, world.” Afshan Azad did her best to keep her daughter’s face hidden from the camera.

Afshan Azad commented on the photo, saying, “By the Grace of God, our Princess is finally here!” Since she came down to see us on Earth a week ago, we have been completely consumed by feelings of love and admiration for her. We praise God that he has given us the most wonderful, flawless, and priceless gift in the form of Allah Humma Barik. I will most likely be absent for some time to recuperate, take some time off, and savor every second and minute of this indescribable sensation, but I am certain I will be back soon.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me to see how I’m doing and for the love and prayers you continue to send my way. The number of messages of congratulations that Afshan received from her friends and followers was overwhelming. In April, Afshan shared the news that she was expecting. Afshan posted photos from her baby shower earlier this month, and the event had a pink theme. On the occasion, she was seen with both her pals and her spouse at her side. “The best part about having you as a spouse is knowing that our children will have you as their father,” Afshan said to Nabil as they shared a photo. Afshan has become the latest Harry Potter “child” to become a parent. The year before that, Rupert Grint, who acted as Ron Weasley, also got his first child with his partner, Georgia Groome.
