Blinded By The Light

Lauren Busser

Set in 1987, Blinded by the Light reveals just how much music (in this case Bruce Springsteen’s) can change a life. Javed (Viveik Kalra), a Pakistani teenager growing up in Britain, first uses his poetry as a way to cope with intolerance and the stubborn views of his father. Springsteen’s powerful lyrics inspire Javed to follow his dreams and ultimately find his own voice. The film, directed by Gurinder Chadha, was based on Greetings from Bury Park: Race, Religion and Rock ’n’ Roll, a memoir by Sarfraz Manzoor.
