Just because you only leave the house once a week to get groceries doesn’t mean you should give up on your beauty routine. Eventually, we will go out of the house every day (with pants on, no less), and we’ll be glad that we kept ourselves looking as normal as possible.

Don’t despair over your greying roots or your outgrown gel manicure. Both of these problems, along with a host of other beauty-related issues, can be solved at home with just a few new skills.

Today, we’ve collected a few of our favorite resources to help us maintain our normal beauty routine at home during COVID-19.

Do Your Hair at Home

As appealing as it is to go at your split ends with a pair of nail scissors after a glass of wine, resist the temptation. If you’re totally fed up with your hair, you can look into getting a remote consultation with a hair stylist, who may be able to help you with minor touch-ups like trimming bangs or removing extensions over FaceTime. Otherwise, it’s best to leave haircuts to the professionals. Many people are dealing with quarantine related boredom by trying out a new hair color, or giving their hair some extra TLC with DIY treatments. Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s go-to hair mask is easy- all you need is some yogurt, an egg, and honey.

Find Hair Removal Products That Work for You

If you’re annoyed with hair growing in on your face, legs, or bikini line, you can take care of it quickly and easily at home. Whether you opt for a cream or a pricier laser hair removal device, make sure to test it out on a small area of skin first, to ensure you don’t have a reaction.

Do an At-Home Spa Day

Just because you can’t go out and get a professional facial doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself. Organize an at-home spa day for yourself or a group of friends. Set a menu of activities beforehand and Zoom or FaceTime a group of like-minded friends for a relaxing day at home. You can use any products you have on hand, or DIY your own. Mix up a batch of water infused with lemon and cucumber, light some candles, and get ready to relax into bliss.

Carefully Maintain Your Makeup

Even if you were already cautious when applying makeup, the COVID-19 epidemic should be a wake-up call to take personal hygiene even more seriously. If you’re used to applying makeup with your fingertips, make sure you wash your hands well beforehand. Sharpen pencils before every use to get rid of the area that may have been exposed to bacteria, and wash brushes and sponges at least once a week. Current CDC guidelines suggest that the virus can live on surfaces anywhere between a few hours and several days.

Do What Feels Good

Almost everyone’s daily routine has been disrupted over the last few weeks. The most important thing to keep it mind when it comes to your beauty routine is to do what feels good. Makeup keeping you sane and feeling normal? Wear it every day! Blow-drying your hair driving you crazy? Throw your hair in a high ponytail and forget about it!

Taking care of your mental and physical health first is the best way to keep yourself looking beautiful.
