Harpreet Kaur becomes the first Sikh female Emmy winner

Harpreet Kaur, known for making documentaries such as ‘The Widow Colony’ and ‘A Little Revolution,’ reportedly became the first Sikh woman to have won an Emmy award for a documentary on a segment she produced in Season 6 of ‘Maryland Farm and Harvest’, a TV show. Harpreet is a community activist and a producer at Maryland Public Television, a member station of PBS. 

Her debut documentary, ‘The Widow Colony – India’s Unsettled Settlement,’ holds the distinction of being the first Sikh film to be shown at the Canadian and UK Parliaments, as well as the US Congress.
