Uplifting & Illuminating Fashions for Diwali

Gabriel Marquez Scott

For this year’s festival of lights, we’ve curated stellar high-fashion looks to help inspire your own.

FABULOUS LIGHTS

Bibhu Mohapatra is an Indian-American fashion and costume designer based in New York. With every collection, he shows his commitment to making women look and feel beautiful, and he makes a point of bringing inclusivity and diversity to the forefront. The play on light vs. darkness in his fall 2019 ready-to-wear collection was mesmerizing, and obviously also very worthy of Diwali.

POWERFUL PLUMES

For the last day of Diwali, make a dramatic entrance in a feathered coat. Yes, it sounds a little out there, but without a doubt the look will make you the envy of every other fashionista. Valentino makes a show-stopping version in mint-green, and we recommend wearing with a silk sari in a bold solid. The look is fun, fabulous, and show-stopping, while also emitting a sense of grandeur and prosperity. The ’80s-inspired look is an excellent way to help close this year’s festivities with a bang.

DIWALI LIVES IN LUXURY

Valentino Haute Couture embraces inclusion, and its creative director, Pier Paolo Piccioli, is the mastermind and heart behind it. Nicole Phelps of Vogue.com says his “message of inclusivity is resonating in a world in which our leaders seem keen to promote isolationism, otherism, and fear.” His diverse group of runway models wearing his dazzling designs for fall 2019 are eminently Diwali-ready.
