Disha Patani was criticised for lying about her age. In 2012, she declared that she was 20 years old and her date of birth was 12 June 1990. Later in 2016, she claimed to be of 20 years with 27 July 1995 as her birth date. She also introduced herself as Disha Patni and not Patani.

In 2020, she supported the Black Lives Matter movement and shared a post on Instagram. However, she was criticized as she has previously worked in skin-lightening product ads.

On 2 June 2021, she was booked by Bandra police along with Tiger Shroff as they breached the COVID-19 lockdown norms. They were caught on the road during the curfew hours.
