Chanda Kochhar is a famous Indian woman because she was able to break through the glass ceiling in financing and transform the industry. Kochhar joined ICICI bank when she was only 22 years old. She started out as a trainee at the bank. In 25 years she was able to radically change the bank and become the first woman CEO of an Indian bank. Kochhar has been a true inspiration to aspiring young women. She has been named one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” by Time Magazine, and Forbes named her One of the “100 Most Powerful Women.” Kochhar is known as a true pioneer in the finance sector. She tells women to fight against their own unconscious inhibitions and to fight for success in life. She is a woman who believes in “converting challenges into opportunities.” Through the leadership of Chanda Kochhar, ICICI bank has greatly expanded. 

Biography of Chanda Kochhar

She was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. 

She comes from a Hindu family, and she received her higher education from the Jai Hind College. Chanda Kochhar later went on to her degree at the University of Mumbai. Her studies did not stop there. She also attended the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and received her Masters of Management Studies Degree from the University of Mumbai. After graduating from college, She joined the ICICI as a trainee, and she was involved in management projects. In 1993, she was appointed as one of the core team members who was assigned to setting the bank up. Just one year later, she was appointed Assistant General Manager and in 1996, she was made the Deputy General Manager. In 2009, she became the CFO of the bank, and later she was made CEO.
