The Labor Day holiday dates to the 1800s, though there is disagreement who officially put the holiday on the calendar. Still, once in place, the holiday allowed machinists, carpenters, and all physical laborers to rest. Hence, one day of the year became an official holiday of rest from manual labor.

This Labor Day weekend, we share with you some ideas to enjoy with your family.

Enjoy The Outdoors

Labor Day is the perfect opportunity to appreciate nature and the outdoors with family. What better thing to do than spend some time in the outdoor breeze? Breathe in fresh air and enjoy the sun before fall arrives. What’s more, spending time outdoors boosts health and mental wellness.

You can do a lot of things that don’t cost a cent, like walking trails, cycling, barbeques, and more. Other outdoor activities include enjoying canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and visiting your state park.

Make Arts And Crafts

Want to get creative? Team up with your little ones to make arts and crafts for Labor Day. You can color some flags, create tie-and-dye red, white, and blue t-shirts, and other artwork or décor items to deck the walls at home. Hand-crafted beaded jewelry is another excellent option that will keep you and your family busy.

Allow yourself (and your kids) to experiment or play around with new painting or crafting techniques, or look up craft videos online for additional ideas.

Enjoy A Day Trip

Day trips are perfect and allow you to explore and discover new things. Whether you go to a new place or re-visit old destinations, there is of exciting things to do. You also create some invaluable shared memories.

For instance, if you are visiting Seattle, you can check out the pop culture museum, the Chihuly Garden and Glass, or take a ride on the Seattle Great Wheel. You can also join a tour on a U.S. Mail Boat dating to the 1890s.

Visit An Amusement Park

Amusement parks are synonymous with excitement and adrenaline, and often have a variety of activities for people of all ages.

When it comes to amusement parks, you are spoilt for choice. Consider parks like Knott’s Berry Farm in Beuna Park, California, Kenwood in Pennsylvania, The Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The fun rides, good food, planned shows and events will keep kids and grown-ups engaged throughout their visit.

Sign Up To Volunteer

Community service is always appreciated, giving you the chance to help those in need. The fulfillment and joy that come with it are priceless.

You and your friends can dedicate Labor Day as an exclusive time to give back to the community. Arrange a food contribution or soup kitchen for those less fortunate and homeless. You could also organize a music concert for the senior home in your community and help at the animal shelter in your area if you’re an animal lover.
