How to Make Nutritious Mango Dal

What You’ll Need

Dal Ingredients     

  • 1 cup toor dal         
  •  1 tsp salt (to taste)         
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder         
  •  ½ cup green mangoes (It’s best to peel your mangoes)    

Tempering Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp ghee         
  •  ½ tsp mustard seeds         
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds         
  •  ¼ tsp asafoetida             
  •     3  red chillies (dried)         
  •      ½ tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder         
  •      2 tbsp cilantro (chop these)    

Method Used to Make Mango Dal in An Instant Pot

  • Mix the mango seed to the dal while it’s cooking for an extra flavour boost. 
  • Once the dal is cooked, it’s a blast to eat them.
  • Adjust the nozzle to the sealing position and secure the lid.
  • Set the timer for ten minutes and choose pressure cooker.
  • Ten minutes after the timer has expired, allow the pressure to gradually dissipate.
  • Lift the instant pot’s cover when the leftover pressure has been released manually.
  • Boiled dal may be softly mashed with a spoon.

Tempering Your Dal

  • Medium heat is ideal for melting your ghee.
  • Stir in the cumin, asafoetida, and dried chillies when the ghee is heated.
  •  Allow the spices to crackle for a few seconds.  
  • Immediately after adding red chilli powder to the pan, add the cooked dal and stir.
  • To dilute the lentils and salt, add a little water.
  • If necessary, adjust the amount of salt in the dish.
  • Boil your dal, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Present it sizzling with phulka or rice and chopped coriander as a topping.
