Amsterdam: the capital of Netherlands or Hollands as it is also called is a treat to visit in spring. With flowers blooming everywhere, the city and its surroundings put up a colourful show quite like none other. Think flourishing blooms of daffodils, crocuses, rhododendrons and the like. And of course, there are tulips which is synonymous with the identity of the country which can be found blooming in city squares, museums, public spaces and the like. Spring is the best season to spend time in Keukenhof Gardens which features hundreds of tulip beds making it a world class attraction. Apart from nature trails and canal tours, Amsterdam offers several insightful sights for the discerning traveller. This includes insightful museums, a compelling art scene and even historic palaces and churches. So, from the Anne Frank house and Jordan square to the Van Gogh Museum and the city’s red-light district, there is never a dearth of interesting places to see in the city. Innsbruck: Nestled in the Alps, this utterly picturesque city is the capital of the Austrian Tyrol region. With its awe-inspiring Baroque and Gothic buildings, this Austrian city is a haven for architecture lovers. Traverse the cobbled streets of the medieval old town for a slice of the old-world charm. While here make sure to stopover at the Golden Roof which is the city’s most famous landmark apart from the Rathaus and the Innsbruck City Tower (Stadtturm). Visit the sprawling Ambras castle if you are a fan of history and art and Nordkette which is the top of Innsbruck if nature is your calling. Take a stroll along the city’s famous bridge that offers stunning views of the Alps. Across the river, a set of symmetrical pastel hued buildings in a row make for a picture-perfect postcard. Florence: perched on the Arno River, Florence in central Italy is the capital of the Tuscany region. It is truly a favourite with art and architecture lovers and is often known as the cradle of the Renaissance movement. The historic centre is one of the oldest in the world and is akin to an open-air museum. This UNESCO world heritage site is home to several architectural masterpieces including the renowned Duomo Complex (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore), the 14th century Palazzo Vecchio and the renowned David by Michelangelo. Head over to Palazzo Pitti which houses several insightful museums including the Palatine Gallery if art is your area of interest. Boboli Gardens which is one of the most picturesque gardens in the city is again one of the best places to enjoy the beauty of spring in Italy. And if you are a plant lover, the Botanical Gardens which is the third oldest in the world gardens (founded in the 1500s) houses a treasure trove of medicinal plants, herbs and food plants.
Barcelona: there is no dearth of activities and entertainment when in this bustling Spanish city. Whether you are fond of beaches or churches, Barcelona located about 700 km from the capital city of Madrid is a city for all kinds of travellers whether they are interested in architecture, relaxation or even sports. From admiring Antoni Gaudí’s unique architecture, which includes the famous Sagrada Família church known for its towers and stain glass windows to taking a stroll on the streets of the bustling La Rambla replete with cafes and boutiques, Barcelona boasts of a kaleidoscope of sights. Food lovers can sample some gastronomic delights in the La Boqueria Market while the Barceloneta Beach is an ideal place to relax. Adventure lovers can take a day trip to Montserrat which is home to a mountain monastery and also climb up Muntjac Castle for some breathtaking views of Barcelona city.
