Entrepreneur Albinder Dhindsa founded an online delivery facility for everyday needs such as grocery, bakery items, fruits, vegetables and flowers. Noticing a gap in delivery and logistics, he went on to found Grofers, putting to use his background in transportation and technology. Albinder Dhindsa is originally from Patiala, Punjab, India. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi with a bachelor’s degree. His early job was as a transportation analyst in URS Corporation. In 2007, he became a Senior Associate in Cambridge Systematics.
Finishing a Master’s degree in Business Administration at Columbia University in New York, Albinder Dhindsa joined UBS Investment Bank as an associate. At that point, he made the decision to move back to India. There he joined Zomato as the Head of International Operations.
It was while he worked at Zomato that his plans began to form, leading him to his bold project, Grofers. He knew that there were problems in logistics as well as mismanagement issues. Spotting problems with transactions between consumers and local merchants, he realized they had disorganization and needed improvement. The company had a struggle when it came to the infrastructure that was a need for delivery.
He became a partner with Saurabh Kumar and they realized that most orders came from pharmacy and grocery stores. With this in mind, they rebranded as themselves as Grofers, which was a hyper-local logistics company.The concept behind the birth of Grofers was discount shopping from the comfort of people’s homes. Before, shoppers had to visit their retail grocery or neighborhood store.
With their hard work, Grofers became one of the top 10 start-ups in Delhi in 2014 by YourStory.com. IndianWeb2.com named the company as among the top 10 promising Gurgaon-based start-ups. Dhindsa realized his dream.
