COVID RELIEF EFFORTS FOR INDIA
On Saturday, May 1, SEEMA was proud to partner with Indiaspora, a non-profit community of global Indian diaspora leaders, to host a virtual fundraising event “Help India Breathe” to raise matching funds for COVID-19 relief efforts in India.
The campaign raised more than $3 Million Dollars to Help India Breathe, thanks to additional matching gift from Vinod Khosla. In case you missed the event, it’s not too late to give. Through Indiaspora’s ChaloGive campaign you can donate to GiveIndia and other on-the-ground organizations at https://www.chalogive.org/
As for yesterday’s event you can watch the replay of the fundraiser.
The “Help India Breathe” event will took place Saturday May 1, from 4PM-6PM ET/1PM-3PM PT/9PM UK/1:30AM India and brought together several powerful voices from the Indian and AAPI community, including Lilly Singh, Deepak Chopra, Dhar Mann, Payal Kadakia, Kunal Nayyar, Humble the Poet, Jay Sean, Radhanath Swami, Janina Gavankar, Vishen Lakhiani, Deepica Mutyala, and others.
Hosted by Jay and Radhi Shetty, this live event aimed to double the impact of the $1 million raised by Indiaspora in 48 hours toward COVID-19 relief in India. During the livestream many donated matching funds and Vinod Khosla announced a matching donation of $1 million.
The funds will address three major areas of COVID-19 relief on the ground: the creation of urgently needed COVID care centers and makeshift hospitals through nonprofit WISH Foundation, direct cash transfer to families who have lost a primary earning member through nonprofit giving platform GiveIndia, and food relief and livelihood assistance for migrant workers and other underserved populations through nonprofits Goonj and Jan Sahas.
SEEMA is proud to be a partner in this initiative to aid those suffering in India.
