Deepti Sharma is the CEO and Founder of FoodtoEat, which according to her website, has been a community-minded catering concierge service.

If one were to ask what is the profession of Deepti Sharma, the answer would be that she is an entrepreneur. As far as the education of Deepti Sharma goes, she did her graduation in political science and business management from Stony Brook University in New York, in 2008.

Food to Empower

While exploring about Deepti Sharma, one can come to know that she is a first generation American and she started FoodtoEat in 2011 as anindividual ordering platform for small restaurants. Her objective behind starting FoodtoEat was to connect immigrant, women and minority-owned food vendors, provide them opportunities for growth and facilitating them to strengthen their business skills, which many a time eluded them.

According to Deepti, her endeavor of FoodtoEat “soon morphed into a concierge catering service to build on my childhood mission of bringing people together through conversation-inspiring new flavors and experiences, all the while increasing the city’s food diversity.”

FoodtoEat serves team meals for corporates from local restaurants, food trucks and caterers. Its vendor network focuses on immigrant-owned & women-owned businesses from across New York City. Deepti described FoodtoEat as “a small business that empowers hundreds of New York restaurants to grow their businesses.”  

Deepti is also the Co-Founder of Bikky along with her husband, which is a guest data & marketing platform for addressing customer engagement with restaurants.

Social and Political Commitment

She has been committed to society and this is reflected in her entrepreneurship initiatives too. She was on the frontlines of the Covid-19 crisis in New York and experienced the pandemic’s catastrophic impact on NYC. As a community organizer, Deepti led grassroot efforts to address food insecurity and brought food to thousands of frontline workers, domestic violence shelters, and nursing homes.

Deepti’s love for politics began when she got her first summer internship in a mayoral campaign for Fernando Ferrer. That was way back in 2005. In the subsequent three to four summers she was seen working in political campaigns and with a political consulting firm.

Since April 2016, Deepti has also been serving World Economic Forum as a Global Shaper. According to Deepti’s LinkedIn profile “The Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum, is a network of hubs developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements, and their drive to make a contribution to their communities.”

Besides this she has been an Advisory Council Member of NYC Food & Beverage Hospitality Council since February 2017. Since September 2021, she has also been the Entrepreneur In Residence with Barnard College in New York at the Athena Center for Leadership.

That is not all. She also has the distinction of serving among the Board of Directors for the Business Center for New Americans from July 2012 to July 2018. Business Center for New Americans is a non-profit that encourages immigrant entrepreneurship by providing micro-loans and financial education. As part of NYC Mayor’s WE NYC initiative, she has mentored female entrepreneurs.

She was also in the list of Forbes 30 Under 30, in 2016.
