Minister of Finance, as well as Corporate Affairs of India Nirmala Sitharaman, was born on August 18, 1959, in New Delhi. Nirmala Sitharaman was born to Savitri and Narayanan Sitharaman in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, to a Tamil family. Madras and Tiruchirappalli were the locations of her formal education. When she graduated from Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College in Tiruchirapalli with honors in 1980, she went on to get master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi. Eventually, she entered a Ph.D. program at the London School of Economics with a concentration on Indo-European commerce, but she later dropped out and relocated to London with her husband (who had won a scholarship at the LSE), thus she never had the chance to finish her degree.

A member of the BJP since 2006, Sitharaman was named a spokeswoman in 2010. She was elected as a junior minister in Narendra Modi’s cabinet in 2014 and elected as an Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha Member in June of the same year.

She was one of the BJP’s 12 candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, which were to be held on June 11th. She was selected to the Karnataka state assembly with a landslide victory.
