Spending quality time at your humble abode with family and friends this summer? Ensure you remain comfortable this warm season with products that lower your home temperature without burning a hole in your utilities bill.

Cooling Blankets and Pillows

If you wake up sweating profusely in the middle of the night, invest in a good-quality cooling blanket. These blankets are usually made from breathable fabrics like linen, cotton and even bamboo and eucalyptus fibers.  They are also thinner than the regular comforters.  These temperature regulating blankets do not trap the heat from inside and help you sleep comfortably.  Some good options to choose from are here and here

Similarly cooling pillows made from heat wicking materials promote better sleep and reduce day time fatigue.  Many pillows are infused with materials like shredded memory foam and cooling gel that prevent overheating.

Table and Misting Fans

Portable fans that can be moved around the house and placed where needed is a blessing in sweltering summers.  Whether you are rustling up a quick meal for your guests or enjoying a game of cards with family, having a good fan around always helps.  Check out some good options here.  Further, misting fans are also a great idea as they spray cool water when they blow air—a winner especially in areas like the garden or the lawn.

Black Out Curtains

When temperatures are very high, black out curtains go a long way in preventing the heat from outside entering your home.  Along with blocking light, they regulate the internal temperature and keep the room cool.  It is a great way to create a comfortable internal environment with lower energy costs.  Available in a wide variety of colors and prints, they also help elevate the aesthetic quotient of your space.

Cooling Mattress Topper

While cooling sheets provide relief from the external heat, mattresses are another place where heat tends to get trapped. Changing the mattress may not be a practical or economical option.  So when it’s hot, a cooling mattress topper is a great solution.  These toppers are usually made of materials like latex foam which helps in air circulation and moisture wicking.

Patio Umbrellas

Summer means basking in the outdoors. Umbrellas in the garden and patio will protect your space from excessive heat.  Patio umbrellas not only provide shade but are visually appealing too.  Make sure you choose a fabric that is durable and one whose canopy is crafted well.  Darker colors including black protect you from the sunlight and harmful UV rays.

Awnings

Often touted as effective sun blockers, awnings help reduce solar heat gain by almost 65%.  They come in a variety of colors and projection widths and can be fitted onto windows to protect your home from harsh sunlight.

Apart from these products, consider items like cooling pads for pets, cooling towels, jumbo ice makers, dehumidifiers, and cooling eye masks to keep your mind and body cool and relaxed this summer.
