For those who don’t enjoy drying, folding, and ironing, there is some hope.  Give your laundry room a new look and create a space where you will enjoy spending time to take the boredom out of the chore.  Here are some quick, easy, and affordable ways to spruce up your laundry space.

Colors, Patterns, and Textures

The easiest way to give your space a new look is by giving it a fresh lick of paint.  A new color can remarkably transport a dull, dark, insipid space to a cheerful, airy one.  Pastels like powder blue, butter yellow, and blush pink are a great choice.  These will add a refreshing vibe that will uplift your mood while tackling the laundry.

If painting is not feasible, consider adding wallpaper to enhance the visual quotient of the room.  You can also alternate between paint and wallpaper by using fresh paint on two walls and highlighting the third wall with wallpaper.  Floral wallpaper on one wall can infuse spring-like feels into your space and can change the vibe of the room.

After applying a fresh coat of paint, it is a good idea to hang in some accessories like artwork, wall plates, or quirky posters. Considering that it is a laundry room, you can use your creativity and hang in framed pieces of heirloom fabric, or a custom applique work made from fabric scraps, or even a macramé rug, all of which can be delightful conversation starters.

Get Creative With Storage

In laundry rooms, storage is never enough.  Use innovative options like storage cubes, jute baskets and organizers to store away detergents, fabric softeners and the works.  Bamboo, wicker, and rattan baskets also make chic organizers.

If you have the space and budget, add in an additional countertop or new cabinets and drawers.  Use vintage knobs and handles to give them a distinctive look.  Ensure that you paint your newly added cabinets and drawers in a shade that complements your walls.  Floating shelves can be a good idea to display little accessories like photo frames, planters, or ceramic ware. Add a rack to hang ironed clothes.

A unique idea to add storage is by incorporating an island in the laundry area if you have the space.  Use it for folding and ironing when needed and during other times, you can add in a centerpiece, such as a vase of fresh flowers or plant. This will give area a lively look.

Lights, Flooring, and Furnishing

Accent lighting can work wonders to alter the look and feel of your laundry room.   A pendant light over the island, or elegant overhead and task lights enhance the aesthetic and functional appeal of the space.  Ceiling fixtures, scones and lamps can elevate the ambience too.

Giving your floor a new lease of life by changing the tiles or adding in a new rug can be a game changer.  Pattern tiles are an appealing choice and these are available in materials like porcelain, ceramic or encaustic.  If you have space, add a bench to sit down and read a book or listen to some music.  Style it with cushions and a throw to give it a cozy look.  Hang in a tiny bookshelf on the wall to store your favorite books.  In case your laundry room has windows, consider hanging in fresh drapes, blinds or valences to add visual interest and vibrant textures.

While there are plenty of ideas to overhaul your laundry room, follow only those that work for your space and your budget.  Major renovations may not be possible in rentals.  So work around your limits and ensure that the modifications are in sync with your overall décor theme and design sensibilities.
