Shreya Ghoshal’s brilliant career began in 2002 when Sanjay Leela Bhansali discovered her after she clinched the musical tv show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa at sixteen and sang five songs in his movie Devdas. Her sensual performances in Jism branded her as a dynamic singer in the business, and since then, her career has only advanced. Working with industry heavyweights such as Anu Malik, Nadeem-Shravan, and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, she contributed her vocals to popular songs such as Piyu Bole, Agar Tum Mil Jao, Dheere Jalna, Mere Dholna, Pehle Se, Hum To Aise Hain, Yeh Ishq Haain, and Main Agar Kahoon. Biography of Shreya Ghoshal

Shreya was born in Murshidabad, West Bengal, India, on March 12, 1984, which makes the age of Shreya Ghoshal 38 as of 2022. She is the eldest of Bishwajit and Sarmistha Ghoshal’s children. While Shreya’s dad, Bishwajit, is an engineer at the Nuclear Power Corporation of India, Shreya’s mother holds a master’s degree in literature. Soumyadeep Ghoshal, her younger brother of Shreya, is a producer and an engineer.

She spent most of her youth in Rawatbhata, a small village near Kota in Rajasthan, and attended Atomic Energy Central School No. 4 until the eighth grade.

Her family relocated to Mumbai in 1997 after her father was reassigned to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Shreya Ghoshal completed her studies at the Atomic Energy Central School in Anushakti Nagar. Shreya was initially determined to pursue a profession in atomic energy. However, she dropped out of college after developing an interest in music throughout her college years.

Singer Shreya Ghoshal was born into a family of musicians and began singing at an early age. Shreya started her training at the age of four. Shreya’s mother encouraged her to embrace her passion for music by enrolling her in classes. Sarmistha’s mother would occasionally accompany her on Tanpura.

Shreya started formal classical music instruction at six. She also trained for 18 months in Mumbai under the late Kalyanji Bhai and music with the late Mukta Bhide. Shreya subsequently began studying Hindustani classical music. Her first major presentation was at a club’s annual celebration.

Initial Successes

 Shreya’s first breakthrough came in 1995 when she won the Sangam Kala Group’s All India Light Vocal Music Competition. During the several stages of the competition, she was judged by renowned musicians such as Kalyanji – Anandji, Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra, and Pandit Anandji. EL TV aired her debut television performance, Awaz Nayi, and Andaz Wohi, her debut studio recording. By 1996, she had won the 75th Children Special edition of Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma (now Sare Ga Ma Pa) program. In the 200th episode, held in January 1999, she won again. Shreya explains that Sa Re Ga Ma, a common Indian tv show of the period, was searching for talented vocalists when she entered the competition. She seized the opportunity and delivered cassettes of her tunes. She was invited to audition within days and aced it.

The late Kalayanji persuaded Shreya’s father to relocate to Mumbai, stating that he was required to do so if he wished to witness his daughter’s success in Bollywood; hence, Shreya’s father requested a move to Mumbai. Shreya studied playback singing for 18 months under Kalayanji. She then recorded her first Marathi song as a professional vocalist, a rendition of Ganraya Rangi Natchato originally performed by Lata Mangeshkar.

Music Career

Shreya’s distinctive voice and capacity to sing in multiple languages establish her as a truly global talent. She began her career as a playback singer with the 2002 film Devdas, for which she received her first National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer.

Shreya Ghoshal has been presented with two Lions Gold International Awards, three Zee Cine Awards, two BIG Star Entertainment Awards, and five Star Screen Awards.

Ghoshal’s work has been influenced by Indian classical, folk, ghazal, and Sufi music. She has provided soundtracks for more than 400 Bollywood films, including Taal (1999), Aashiqui (1990), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Veer-Zaara (2004), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), and Silsila Ye Chahat Ka (2013).

Moreover, Ghoshal has lent her voice to numerous Indian regional films in Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, and Telugu, among others.
