When, in December 2021, Harnaaz Sandhu beat out nearly 80 other women from around the world to take the Miss Universe crown, she brought the title back home to India for the first time in 21 years. A month later, in January 2022, Harnaaz Sandhu Miss Universe India moved from her home country to New York to begin her Miss Universe duties.
In addition to winning the crown at the 70th Annual Miss Universe Pageant held in 2021 at Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel, Sandhu previously won the Femina Miss India Punjab 2019 title and the Miss Diva UniverseNext Competition. Prior to that, in 2018, she won the title of Miss MAX Emerging Star and, before that, Miss Chandigarh in 2017.
