Chocolate is an aphrodisiac that makes it a great option on Valentine’s Day

It is well known that chocolate has been shown to induce a feeling of euphoria that improves one’s mood and is frequently compared to falling in love. Chocolates are known to release feel good hormones and cocoa has an amphetamine-like substance, phenylethylamine (PEA), that is often called the love drug. Often dubbed the food of the gods, chocolates are known to stimulate and elevate one’s mood as they also increase the chemical affecting the pleasure centers in the brain which is the dopamine levels. So, when you are celebrating love why not add chocolate to enhance your day?

So here, is a simple, fun recipe that a couple can make together.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 oz dark chocolate (54%)
  • 2 oz butter
  • 1.5 oz sugar powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 4 ½ tsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder

METHOD

  1. Preheat the oven to 360 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Grease a 4-inch ring with butter and dust with cocoa powder.
  3. Melt the dark chocolate with the butter in a microwave for 30 seconds or in a bain-marie.
  4. Add in the powdered sugar and mix it in with a hand whisk.
  5. Mix in the whole egg and the yolk.
  6. Mix in the flour and the cocoa powder.
  7. Pour the batter in the prepared mold and bake for 18 minutes.
  8. If baking in smaller ramekins, bake time will reduce to 10-12 min or until the edges look baked and the center wobbly.
  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes. Remove from the mold and serve with ice cream.
