Must-Have Essentials for Summer Holidays

The start of summer break is all about getting those “oohs” and “aahs” in, laying in bed all day, AC cranked up to an 11, living by the mantra “I never want to leave this couch.” And then you’re in the last few weeks of the season, fall is almost upon you, and it dawns on you — the summer holiday has arrived!

Few things bring stable families with dead-end jobs or young and exhausted hustling entrepreneurs alike the same joy like the prospect of a well-earned summer vacation, maybe a trip to an exotic locale like Mexico or the beach a few hours away, or even a change of scenery like the European alps or a Colorado ski resort. Whatever it may be, it’s the time of year that throws many a planner into panic when it comes to their packing list.

Compiled from our many shared summer vacation experiences, here are some of SEEMA’s top essentials for a summer holiday, from the “you can’t forgets” to the “you don’t need to, but why nots?” of the world (skipping past some of the regulars of course, like your chargers and your clothes)…

SPF

While it may seem obvious, not enough people really pay attention to how important having good sunscreen really is. Your skin will obviously thank you, but so will your state of mind, since you won’t be fighting off rashes or uncomfortable breakouts while on your trip.

Anything SPF 30 or higher is recommended, the classic pick has to be Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel Lotion, which serves as a moisturizer with SPF 50.

A carry-on

Whether your break is two days long or 22, it’s always worth having a carry-on around you. Not only is it the easiest thing to manage through airports and train stations, but on the off-chance you lose your luggage, your essentials need someplace safe to be.

Though it’s on the more expensive side, Shay Mitchell’s BÉIS bags are a strong option, especially the brand’s Weekender bags, perfect for two-night getaways with a separate shoe compartment.

A polaroid camera

In this day and age, everyone has their phone along to take as many photos as possible at a moment’s notice, but why not stock up for a polaroid to capture all the special memories in a more unique fashion?

You can’t go wrong with Polaroid’s own signature camera for instant snaps that are ready to hang on your wall as soon as you’re back.

Prescriptions and hygiene

You may be on break, but your skincare, hygiene and medication aren’t, so it’s always a priority making sure they’re handy as soon as you need them, with the help of a trusty travel organizer.

Bangalore-based brand Chumbak has the most intricate set of travel organizers, with many of their products sporting bright and colorful folk-inspired designs that make them more than just a convenience.

Snacks

In between trying out the local cuisine, if you’re the peckish type (can relate), never fear! Reach for that handy pocket in your carry-on and whip out a slew of snacks you’ve packed just for the occasion, especially if you’re on the road and have miles to go before any convenience store pops up.

A packet of nuts or fruits do the job, although if you’re willing, a packet of namkeen goes a long way.

A travel folder

This may just sound like you’re taking your work with you, but it’s actually quite handy to have a folder in your bag at all times to conveniently store your most important travel documents.

No need to have your passport, visa, tickets, reservations, and the like all strewn in different pockets, just stuff them all into one sleek folder. And these personalized document holders on Etsy will likely also ensure they don’t suddenly get lost mid-transit either.
