Malai Ice cream new flavor honors Madame Vice President Kamala Harris
Malai Ice cream, a Brooklyn, NY based Ice Cream shop features new flavor to honor Madame Vice President Kamala Harris

Vice President Kamala Devi Harris has inspired women and girls all over the world to dream big and aim for the stars. With her appointment to the second highest office in the United States, aspirations that seemed out of reach for many women, including women of color and of South Asian origin, now seems possible.

During her victory speech, Harris encouraged girls to realize those dreams. “Every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.”

Harris’ inauguration inspired Pooja Bavishi, Founder and CEO of Malai, a dessert shop in Brooklyn, to launch a new ice cream called Madame Vice President. The pint-sized ice cream features a delectable mix of flavors, including mango, coconut, cane sugar, jaggery and other ingredients representing India and Jamaica, and candied lotus seeds representing ‘Kamala’

Bavishi says, ”Electing Kamala Devi Harris as our Vice President was a powerful moment for me.  Watching the impact of a first generation American and daughter of immigrants elected to the second highest office in this country, is truly indicative of how important the need for representation is.  It is a moment I will never forget.  This ice cream honors Madam Vice President’s East and West Indian roots, with a nod to the meaning of her name (kamala means lotus in Sanskrit).  We think that a coconut mango ice cream with jaggery-candied lotus seeds is exactly the dessert that should be served on Air Force 2!”
