A Promising Political Voice
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, also known as Priyanka Gandhi, is a prominent political leader from India. She is the General Secretary of the Indian National Congress, in charge of Uttar Pradesh. She has been entrusted by the party high command with the charge of improving Congress’s political stature in Uttar Pradesh; a crucial state of India having huge influence in India’s national politics.
However, the electoral debacle of Congress in the recent legislative assembly elections in UP where the grand old party won only 2 seats out of the 401 seats it contested, has put a question mark on her leadership among the people. Under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi Congress plummeted to its lowest ever tally in the UP-assembly elections and what was more, the party lost its traditional stronghold Rae Bareilly and Amethi seats too.
Electoral Debacle
The disappointing performance was despite her tireless and high voltage electoral campaign and her revolutionary decision to give 40 percent tickets (to contest elections from Congress) to women.
Among her electoral promises for the recently concluded UP assembly elections, Priyanka promised to enhance the meagre wages of the Anganwadi and Asha workers in UP and of having 75 skill schools in the names of women icons of the state.
Priyanka Gandhi launched Congress party’s poll campaign for the Uttar Pradesh 2022 assembly elections on 23rd October 2021 from Barabanki. It may have been too late. According to one senior leader if she had started focusing on UP one-and-half-year back before the elections, things would have been a little different.
However, despite her recent failure in UP assembly elections, her potential leadership qualities and her charisma cannot be overlooked. She is very much expected to emerge as an important political voice of India in the near future.
