A Promising Political Voice
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, also known as Priyanka Gandhi, is a prominent political leader from India. She is the General Secretary of the Indian National Congress, in charge of Uttar Pradesh. She has been entrusted by the party high command with the charge of improving Congress’s political stature in Uttar Pradesh; a crucial state of India having huge influence in India’s national politics.
However, the electoral debacle of Congress in the recent legislative assembly elections in UP where the grand old party won only 2 seats out of the 401 seats it contested, has put a question mark on her leadership among the people. Under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi Congress plummeted to its lowest ever tally in the UP-assembly elections and what was more, the party lost its traditional stronghold Rae Bareilly and Amethi seats too.
The disappointing performance was despite her tireless and high voltage electoral campaign and her revolutionary decision to give 40 percent tickets (to contest elections from Congress) to women.
Among her electoral promises for the recently concluded UP assembly elections, Priyanka promised to enhance the meagre wages of the Anganwadi and Asha workers in UP and of having 75 skill schools in the names of women icons of the state.
Priyanka Gandhi launched Congress party’s poll campaign for the Uttar Pradesh 2022 assembly elections on 23rd October 2021 from Barabanki. It may have been too late. According to one senior leader if she had started focusing on UP one-and-half-year back before the elections, things would have been a little different.
However, despite her recent failure in UP assembly elections, her potential leadership qualities and her charisma cannot be overlooked. She is very much expected to emerge as an important political voice of India in the near future.
If one asks of Priyanka Gandhi’s age, 50 years is the answer. Born on 12th January 1972, Priyanka Gandhi belongs to the most famous political family of India. While talking about Priyanka Gandhi biography, one should mention that she is the daughter of the great Sonia Gandhi –the current and the longest serving President of Indian National Congress, and of the former PM of India, Rajiv Gandhi. Priyanka is the granddaughter of the former PM of India, Indira Gandhi, and Feroze Gandhi. Indira Gandhi was the daughter of the first PM of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Her Political Career
As a politician Priyanka Gandhi doesn’t have a long innings till now. Priyanka didn’t enter active politics before January 2019 when she was appointed as the General Secretary of Congress; in charge of the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. She was given the charge of entire Uttar Pradesh by the party on 11th September 2020.
However, much before these high-profile appointments, she used to regularly visit the constituencies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, in Rae Bareilly and Amethi respectively, and interacted directly with the people there.
Priyanka Gandhi also helped in Sonia and Rahul’s political campaigns in 2004 and 2007. Priyanka was Sonia Gandhi’s campaign manager in the 2004 Indian general election, and during that time, she also helped in supervising her brother Rahul Gandhi’s campaign. In the 2007 assembly elections in UP also she helped in Rahul Gandhi’s campaign where focused on the ten seats in the Amethi Rae Bareilly region.
