It’s winter, and so time to drag out those snow tubes. What better way to spend time outdoors than with this fun and popular activity? If you don’t know what we are talking about, here’s a primer.

What is Snow Tubing?

Snow tubing is gliding down a snowy hill in a tube. Earlier, the tubes were used tires. These days, inflatable tubes are specially made for the activity.

Taking Care

Safety measures should always be adhered to even though snow tubing is considered less risky than sledding. Just like with other sports, broken or fractured bones, scrapes and bruises are possible when tubing down a snowy hill. A little caution can ensure the safety of all participants.

  • Grown-ups and children should dress warmly for the snow climate (hats, gloves, boots, coat)
  • All snow tubers should wear helmets (bicycle, skateboard, all-purpose protective helmet)
  • Learn how to stop the tube with your feet and never go tubing in public places. The result could be accidents involving pedestrians and traffic.
  • Snow tube with others; never do it alone.
  • Tubing parks are the best places to enjoy a few rounds with the family.
  • Don’t go down the hill facing the way you started; go with your feet facing the front.
  • Don’t snow tube when it’s dark, given the increased risk.

What Makes It Fun?

  • You get to race each other.
  • You don’t need special skills or training, making it a great choice for first-timers.
  • Snow tubing feature lanes so you can get a real race going and not have to worry about someone coming in your way.
  • It is inexpensive and, thus, the perfect treat for moms and their families.
  • It is a good activity to get some fun exercise, as trekking uphill is part of the fun.
  • Children love snow tubing.
