Firstly, How Did Daiquiris Come to Be?

The following account, inspired by Eater.com delves into the history of this cocktail.

The genesis of the daiquiri may be traced back to an authentic beverage recipe card certified by a “Jennings Cox” in 1896, unlike most other historical beverages.
An American engineer who resided in Cuba during the Spanish-American War is credited with inventing the daiquiri after being short of gin whilst hosting a cocktail party, according to some accounts. He used rum as a replacement in a drink since it was readily available. The beverage was really created using limes and brown sugar, despite the fact that lemons were uncommon in Cuba.

With its tremendous popularity came the “Daiquiri,” named after a neighbouring coastal city where the United States launched its first invasion of Cuba, as part of the Spanish-American War.
As a result, it is possible that Cox was simply first to write down the recipe for a drink that had been around for some time in Cuba. To top it all off, the British Royal Navy had relied on a drink similar to the daiquiri—”grog” for generations to stave off disease. Admiral Lucius W. Johnson imported Cox’s cocktail to the United States in 1909, after it had previously only been available in Cuba. He presented his daiquiri to the Army and Navy Club in Washington D.C., where he had visited Cox.
