The career of the actress Sonu Walia spanned from 1988 to the 2005 release of the movie, Suryakant. Partly because she was so tall and beautiful, she was not able to get roles that were deeper and more challenging.

She was the winner of a beauty pageant and won the title of Miss India in 1985. Prior to that, she worked as a successful model.

Life became controversial when she filmed bold scenes in the movie, Akarshan, as she took on the role of Priya. In those days, she caught talk and trouble for her strong scenes of kissing and acting. This all happened in 1988, as she appeared along with Akbar Khan.

Born as Sonia Walia on February 19, 1964 in Delhi, India, her family spoke Pujabi. Her father, named Major Satinder Walia, was an officer and served in the Indian Army.

She studied journalism and graduated with a degree in Journalism and Psychology. Taking advantage of her beauty, she decided to become a model. She entered the Miss India contest and received the crown of Miss India in 1985. The former Miss India was the well-known Bollywood actress, Juhi Chawla. After that, Sonu Walia decided to enter the Miss World contest in 1985. She changed her name from Sonia to Sonu along the way.

She became a Bollywood actress and appeared in movies from 1988 to the 2005. Her films include Khoon Bhari Maang, Arkarshan, Dil Aaashna Hai, Yash, Numbri Aadmi, Haatim Tai and more.

Her films, in just 1991 alone, include the following: Paro, Khel, Haque, Pratikar, Thalapathi, Swarg Jaisaa Ghar, Rupaye Dus Karod and Jeevan Daata.

Working alongside actor Kabir Bedi, she received the Filmfare Award for the category of Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film Khoon Bhari Maang.

Even during her film career, she went on to do television shows. In 1988, she portrayed

the role of Maharani Chitrangadhaa, mother of Babruvahana, in the Mahabharat Katha TV show. Acting further in her television career, she had a role in a TV serial, Betaal Pachisi; it included the actors, Tom Alter and Shahbaz Khan.

In 2000, she moved to the US with her husband, Pratap Singh, an NRI businessman. At that time she quit film and decided to run a home. The traveled, as he was in the hotel business. During her marriage to Pratap Singh, who worked as a producer, she worked behind the scenes on some films. Pratap passed away from kidney disease in 2009.

She eventually left acting to become a producer. At present, she has association with Tegh Enterprises. Its debut production is Jogiyaa Rocks, a musical love story of a small town boy, who goes on to become a rockstar. This movie features television actor Rohit Bakshi with Suzanne Mukherjee and Kirti Kulhari.

Her close family includes a niece, who is like a daughter to her. The age of Sonu Walia in 2022 is 58 years old.
