Reem Al Hashimi is a dynamic politician from United Arab Emirates. She is also known as Reem Al Hashimy. She is the Minister of State for International Cooperation in the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and was the Director General for Expo 2020.

Expo 2020 had the distinction of being the first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region. The expo was held in Dubai, from 1st October 2021 to 31st March 2022. Initially the duration for the expo was from 20th October 2020 to 10th April 2021, but it was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The mega event attracted more than 24 million visits in six months.

 She was born in 1978, in Dubai. The age of Reem Al Hashimi is 44 years. Her involvement in public life is a long one. In February 2008, Reem Al Hashimi was appointed as the Minister of State in the Cabinet of the United Arab Emirates, and she was appointed as the Minister of State for International Cooperation in February 2016.

Donning Many Hats

Besides serving as the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation she also chairs the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, which leads the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals in the UAE, and aligns them the national development priorities of UAE. She is also engaged in managing the Vice President’s Office for Political Affairs.

Moreover, within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of UAE, Reem Al Hashimy has the  responsibility for the UAE’s bilateral relations with India, Pakistan, Sub-Saharan African countries and the Small Island Developing States (SIDS). She is the former Chairperson of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, which fosters the UAE’s global competitiveness across different sectors.
