Sakina and Zainab are sisters, four years apart. They were born and brought up in Toronto, Canada in a Muslim household. As most sisters do, they grew up as each other’s best friends.
Sakina obtained a bachelor’s degree in child development and works as an analyst at TD Canada Trust. As a single mother – of 3-year-old Sanaa – she faces some challenges, but her family’s support helps her deal with some of them.
Zainab, who has a business degree from York University, is involved in customer service at a shipping company. Married for three years, she is working towards building her family.
Both Sakina and Zainab advocate the importance of respect and value for a woman – in marriage and in life. Since their early years, their philosophy, based on what their father taught them, has been that a woman can do everything that a man can do. They were encouraged to educate themselves and live independent lifestyles. They have discussed, via their Instagram page (@piranigirls), some of the challenges they have faced in marriage in their South Asian culture. Furthermore, they have also discussed how they would change things for the next generation of girls in our society.
At the beginning of the pandemic, they started an Instagram page, Pirani Girls, focusing on fashion, beauty and lifestyle. They wanted to create a platform that allowed them to connect with women all around the world. They connect to the average women by providing inspiration through fashion, makeup, skincare and overall lifestyle.
In this video created exclusively for SEEMA, the Pirani Girls have shared their go-to summer look. They wear minimal makeup while still looking amazing. The effect is quick, breathable and super luminous. This makeup look can be used with a neutral lip or something brighter.
