“The Real Housewives” — the popular series that began in 2006 with the “The Real Housewives of Orange County” — now goes international to follow the luxurious lives of the glamorous women in Dubai.
Bravo — the network known for its many premiere lifestyle and entertainment shows — expands its popular franchise, which in the past has included sojourns in New York City, Atlanta, New Jersey, Dallas, and seven other cities known for their razzle-dazzle.
This is the first time that the franchise leaves the American continent and travels to the Middle East. The series format has been sold around the world, but this marks the network’s first original international iteration.
“The Real Housewives of Dubai” will premiere in 2022 and will be the 11th city in the franchise and the first outside the US. The story revolves around a small group of wealthy women and their enviable lifestyle. What better choice of a city than one recognized the world over for its luxuries and over-the-top opulence.
Though the cast is yet to be finalized, speculations are rife that some leading social media influencers may be included. It will be interesting to see the mix of nationalities seen, considering that almost 80% of the population are expatriates.
The announcement this week said the series highlights a group of women navigating their relationships, careers, and supremely lavish and ultra-wealthy lifestyles in the United Arab Emirates. With Dubai, the hot desert paradise with its shimmering mirages, as the backdrop, this land of the rich certainly knows how to attract tourists and attention alike.
Andy Cohen continues to be the executive producer of the franchise and is pegging his hope on “The Real Housewives of Dubai” taking the franchise to the next level.
“Everything’s bigger in Dubai,” Cohen said in a press release. “I couldn’t be more excited to launch Bravo’s first international Housewives series in a city I’ve been fascinated by for years, with an outstanding group of friends as our guides.”
Though we do not have a specific date for the premiere of the show, the wait should be worth it.
