Depending on the look you’re going for, some of these products can be reserved for a more advanced cosplay look.

How to Do an Easy Special Effects Makeup Look for Beginners

Doing animal makeup for cosplay is ideal for beginner’s special effects makeup. Most of these looks are popular for children’s theatrical plays. For a show or street art show, hiring an experienced special effects makeup artist is usually a good idea. However, doing your own customized special effects makeup is also enjoyable. Here’s how you can ace a simple leopard look! Note that you won’t be needing most of the tools mentioned earlier for a professional makeup artist’s kit. For this simple look, basic or traditional makeup is all that’s necessary!

Necessary Products

  • Eye primer and a neutral eye makeup pallet are a must-have
  • Eyeliner with a gold or yellow tint
  • Eyeliner in the color black
  • Brownish-bronzer
  • A powder for setting your makeup
  • A palette for contouring and highlighting
    blusher.
  • Concealer with a light-colored tint
  • A range of cosmetics brushes for application and blending
  • Bronze eyeliner or shadow in a liquid form

Creating Dimension with Eye Shadow

To brighten the eye region, use eye primer all the right up to the eyebrows.   Before moving on to applying eyeshadow, first add a neutral pink to the wrinkles of your eye to create a transition hue. For a more cat-like appearance, use brown on the outermost Vs of the eyes, blending outwards from the eyes. Last but not least, accentuate the outer corners of your eyes with the palette’s deepest colour.

Using a golden or yellow-hued eye crayon, apply it to the entire eyelid. Apply more of the deepest colour to the outermost corners of the eyes to make them stand out more. Use a larger, more fluffy makeup brush to soften the edges.
Eyes Like a Leopard’s!

Draw a solid line of gel eyeliner well above lash line using a little detail brush. Make a wing to resemble a cat. On the lower inside corners of the eyes, extend the liner with a brush. Lower your lashes with a medium brown color. You may add depth to the look by applying the deepest tint to your bottom lashes only.

Creating a Cat Face

Using the deepest shade of the contouring palette, apply bronzer to the cheeks, forehead, and edges of the nose, and blend it in with the bronzer. Apply a little layer of blush on the cheeks. To finish, chisel the nose with the deepest contour colour or a brown eye shadow.

Creating a Cute Leopard Nose and Cat Mouth!

Use a tiny brush to add and integrate white concealer to the nasal bridge and the area between the nose and the upper lip. Using a brown eyeshadow or contour shade, blend out the borders of the white on your nose. Conceal the lower lip with white.

Apply setting powder to all the places where you used the white concealer. You can start by applying the gel eyeliner directly on the nose and drawing a perfect line down from there. Draw the top lip with the gel eyeliner as well. Make whiskers by placing black eyeliner dots between the uppermost lip and nose.

A Leopard Face is Not Complete without Its Signature Markings!

Leopard spots may be filled up using the same gel eyeliner. You can begin by creating Cs or brackets in an uneven manner. Around the right eye, we used them in an arc. Then do the left section of your neck. Repeat. Bronze, sparkly liquid eyeliner can be used to highlight the blemishes. To complete the look, apply mascara to the lashes. To complete the outfit, put on some leopard ears and a leopard blouse.

FAQs

How long does it take to do special effects makeup?

With some cosplay aesthetics, special effects (SFX) makeup might take as long as 10 hours to apply, and much longer to remove.

How long does special effects makeup last?

Ultimately, this depends largely on the staying power of the products you use when creating a look. Practice the following to make your SFX makeup last longer:

Adding more than one type of blush can help the color linger longer.
Instead of a brow pencil, use a long-lasting eye pencil on the brows. It can also be used to create the appearance of artificial freckles or beauty spots.
Apply concealer across your lips before adding liner and lipstick to give the appearance of fuller lips. Use a reverse lip liner if you need to change the curve of your lips.
